Service solutions for well production metering & optimisation

In production operations, the determination of well production rates is an established practice used during the entire life of the field for reservoir monitoring, well performance monitoring and back allocation of the produced volumes to individual wells. Accurate metering information is a key to maximizing production (diagnostics & well performance optimisation) and total recovery (reservoir monitoring and reserves management).

Multiphase Flow Meters (MPFM) measure real-time oil, water and gas rates in the pressurized flow stream without prior separation, removing most of the sources of error that afflict conventional measurements: being a simple flow through device, the MPFM provides more accurate and highly repeatable real-time measurements under improved safety and environmental conditions.

The technology breakthrough provided by Geoservices and its high standards of service introduces new solutions for mobile well production testing applications:
- Production metering
- Artificial lift optimisation
- Production rate measurements in fluctuating flows, foaming or emulsions
- Production allocation

Geoservices Multiphase Metering Services - Description

Geoservices provides solutions for production metering using mobile MPFM services. Thanks to the new developments that provide consistent results with improved accuracy, especially at very high gas content in the flow stream, the service can be applied to all types of fluid and flow conditions.

Geoservices offers complete service features to respond to the requirements of each job. Test setup definition, job safety analysis, fluid properties characterization, well test reporting, combination with surfacedownhole and lift parameters.
The Geoservices multiphase flowmeter measures the total mass flow rate of the multiphase flow through a venturi section and the phase fractions of oil, gas and water are determined with double energy gamma ray attenuation measurements. The differences in velocity between phases are determined using multiphase and slip models. The more recent developments at Geoservices have achieved a consistent flow model covering the entire range of gas volume fraction (GVF) providing improved accuracy for very high GVF conditions.

This portable MPFM, skid mounted, is equipped with two venturi sections: this 2-in-1 meter feature allows accurate measurements on an extended range of flow rates providing the ability to meter low to high productivity wells in a field without any modification.

 Operation & reporting

Geoservices MPFM services provide the complete solution for accurate well metering:
- Gamma ray meters are systematically calibrated with the actual fluids of the well to maximise accuracy of fraction measurements
- The service includes fluid characterization equipment and in-house software for PVT data calculations
- The user-friendly acquisition & reporting software includes
  • Real-time calculations
  • Raw data storage at high frequency
  • Capability to replay data recorded using tuned calibration & PVT data
  • Continuous data tracking for real-time diagnostics and remote quality control.

Combination with surface, dowhole or lift parameters

In addition to the MPFM measurements, simultaneous surface, lift and downhole parameters can be combined to provide a complete overview of the well’s performance. Various solutions can be proposed to answer specific issues for each field: interface with the parameters from ESP or PDG panels, integration of downhole logging measurements, simultaneous deployment of a light and versatile Geoservices acquisition system for the surveillance and recording of gas lift parameters, well head or surface process data.

 Geoservices setup design

The MPFM can be integrated into a customised setup to adapt to each field configuration, from offshore platform to mobile solutions for swamp areas or onshore truck-mounted applications. Ancillary equipment can be added such as a choke manifold or surface safety valves to suit special operational requirements

 Multiphase metering service benefits

Portability, lightweight and reduced footprint of the mobile MPFM allows the freedom for it to access remote locations or be installed in a reduced space on offshore platforms.
The elimination of phase separation improves safety, preserves the environment, and avoids gas flaring and fluid disposal.
The MPFM monitors the dynamics of well behaviour allowing real flow performance diagnostics. The measurements are not affected by flow regimes, efficiency of separation, emulsions or foaming. This allows productionmetering under highly challenging conditions.
